An infectious diseases specialist says those who have had COVID-19 are still encouraged to get their booster shot.

Hundreds of thousands of Australians have been infected with COVID over the last month as the Omicron variant takes hold.

Director of Infectious Diseases at Mater Health Professor Paul Griffin told Neil Breen boosters are still an important part of immunity.

“The minimum duration after you’ve had COVID before you get any of the vaccines or your booster is definitely until you’re fully recovered.

“Ideally, a month or greater.

“Particularly after you’ve had your vaccine, if you get the infection it does work as a booster to a degree, so it’s okay to push that booster back probably a few months, to be honest.”
