Fallen officers farewelled with full honours, awarded bravery medals
Queensland’s largest-ever police memorial has taken place this morning, farewelling the two officers murdered in last week’s ambush on the Western Downs.
Constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow were farewelled the way they lived and worked: side-by-side.
Their families were joined by the two surviving officers, Constables Keely Brough and Randall Kirk.
Among the dignitaries paying their respects were the Prime Minister, Premier, Governor and police commissioners from every state and territory.
The slain officers were be met by a guard of honour stretching 1.5 kilometres, including a motorcade, police boats and the Polair, which was there the day the tragedy unfolded.

Thousands attended the memorial service at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Former police union head John ‘Bluey’ O’Gorman told Spencer Howson it’s going to be an emotional day.
“There’s grief, and severe grief, I’m still carrying a load of anger, which I suppose is natural,” he said.
“But there is another feeling I can’t explain and when you see the sea of people who are here to pay respects to two young heroes, it’s so moving.
“There’s blue shirts everywhere, there’s people in suits everywhere, there’s ordinary, knock-about people.”
