QPU President Ian Leavers points to the inadequacy of the judiciary system in tackling the youth crime crisis.

The President of the Queensland Police Union, Ian Leavers, joined Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons to address where the police sit amongst the youth crime crisis in light of Sunday’s chaotic scenes in Rockhampton.

Mr Leavers said that the police “feel the pain of decent people who are suffering at the hands of these young people who are committing very, very serious crimes”.

Although Mr Leavers doesn’t condone the upset Rockhampton residents taking things into their own hands, he “understands their frustration”.

Mr Leavers is calling for all sides of politics to come together to come up with solutions instead of political point scoring.

He pointed to the inadequacy of the Queensland judiciary system saying “these young people are just laughing at them”.

“Something has to change”, the QPU President said.

“If some of these crimes were committed upon the judiciary, maybe they might have a rethink and a reset”, Mr Leavers commented.
