South Bank 3.0: The ideas for the major revamp of a Brisbane landmark
Ideas for improving one of Brisbane’s most recognisable landmarks, South Bank, have been floated including more green spaces, a treetop walk and extending the dining precinct.
The state government wants the area to be transformed into a “people focused” area ahead of the 2032 Olympics.
Queenslanders are being urged to have their say on the draft masterplan.
Early plans have indicted more green space, cascading steps to the riverside, the demolition of the Piazza, a treetop walk and increase in dining areas.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles said yesterday South Bank will serve as the heart of Brisbane for the Games.
“South Bank of course is central to our vision for how the city connects and works together and central to vision for how we will deliver the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
4BC Breakfast caller Bec had an idea for a huge new playground, parent-friendly too!

Neil Breen said the precinct has become too congested and a construction zone.
In his view, South Bank has been “loved to death”.
“South Bank to me now feels claustrophobic … I feel like I can’t breathe,” he said on Monday’s Brisbane Live.
“Also at the moment at South Bank it is a construction zone, we’ve got to come up with a plan that will see construction end at some point, so we can go back to loving it.
“I think it’s been loved to death.”
