Severe weather is forecast to return this afternoon with regions from northern Moreton Bay to Bundaberg in the firing line.

Parents and carers are being asked to collect children attending schools in the area as the region braces for another wave of storms.

Violent storms battered Brisbane this morning, carving a new path of destruction behind the floods.

It’s the last thing some areas needed after floodwaters only recently receded.

Nine News reporter Alex Heinke conditions have deteriorated even further in Rocklea.

“There’s a lot of water you can see just gushing out of the pipes and out of the drains,” he said.

“So many cars that have been parked on the side of the street, they thought was a safe spot but if this rain continues, it probably won’t be.”

In just one hour, Energex customers without power rose from 18,000 to 38,000.

Energex spokesperson Annita Sietas told Neil Breen the damage is widespread.

“We’re keeping a very close eye on that and keeping a close eye on the weather,” she said.

“Our crews are on standby and they’re ready to go.”

Acting CEO of Queensland Rail Scott Riedel told Neil Breen some stations were drenched by the rain.

“It was a wall of water in Central,” he said.

“The Valley station did have a flooding event over the track there.

“We’ve inspected that, those services are now running through there again.”

Brisbane is set to be battered by severe and very dangerous thunderstorms this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for much of the south-east, including the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Redland and Brisbane areas.

Giant hailstones, intense rain and damaging winds are likely.

Weatherman Justin Noonan told Neil Breen the greatest threat for large hail will be from Springfield to Wivenhoe.

“The southern suburbs are really in the firing line,” he said.

“I can’t stress just how violent these storms can be.

“These are the big, big storms of the world and they cause a lot of destruction.”

Listener John sent Neil this snap of the storm as it rolled over Grantham.

He said his property recorded 42 millimetres of rain in just 15 minutes.

Joy told Neil while the storm is now passing away from Ipswich, the rain is still heavy.

“I’m not in the middle, I’m not in the heart of town, I’m not in the suburbs at the moment,” she said.

“But I don’t know what’s happening on the northside because when I looked out the window earlier, oh God, it looked terrible.”
