Special KAT walk on in Brisbane this weekend to highlight rare genetic disorder
There is a special KAT walk this Sunday in Brisbane, to raise awareness and funds for rare genetic disorders called KAT6A and KAT6B.
Meg Salisbury is from the KAT6 Foundation and her daughter Ginger was the first person to be diagnosed in Australia, and the 34th in the world.
“KAT6 is a De Novo mutation, which just means that it is random, and causes a number of different challenges the main features are it causes global developmental delay, significant speech and language deficits, so most of the people with KAT6A are non verbal,” she told Neil Breen.
“Severe gastro-intestinal issues, intellectual disability, feeding difficulties, vision issues, heart defects, sleep disturbances.”
The walk kicks off out the front of The Plough Inn in Brisbane at 2pm on Sunday 18 September.
