State secures 400-hectare land parcel for Gold Coast koala reserve
A massive parcel of land on the Gold Coast has been secured by the state government as part of efforts to tackle koala habitat loss.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning announced the purchase of 400 hectares of reserve in Pimpama for $24 million.
She said 98 koalas have already been identified on the site, known as Greenridge.
“We know the northern parts of the Gold Coast are growing quite quickly,” she said. “So it’s going to be a great conservation area for our koalas.”
