Stepmum shares son’s heartbreaking decision to end his life
104-year-old academic David Goodall has flown to Switzerland to end his life through voluntary euthanasia.
It’s prompted Chris Smith to ask the question, should we be given a choice on how and when we die?
Victoria is currently the only Australian state to legalise euthanasia, however, it won’t come into effect until mid-2019.
“It just seems so unfair that a person who’s suffering has no control over his or her life,” says Chris Smith.
Chris’ comments prompt Di to call in and share her emotional story after her stepson also went to Switzerland to euthanise himself.
Suffering from Huntington’s disease, Di’s stepson, wife and children secretly flew over for his death.
“He was in a terrible state and it was something that he always wanted to do.
“He sent lovely, wonderful messages to us all,” she tells Chris.
“I just can’t get my head around how they flew over all that way, knowing that they were never going to bring him back alive, they were just going to bring him back in a box.
“It was just so brave of them I thought.”
