Steve Price remembers a great mate as organ donation stats revealed
Organ donation in Australia has more than doubled in the 10 years since the national organ donation program started.
A record 1544 people received a transplant in 2018, a 10 per cent increase on the year before.
Those people were given the gift of life from 544 individual donors.
15 years ago this week Steve Price lost his great mate David Hookes to a one-punch attack in Melbourne.
The former Test cricketer had his organs donated and his wife Robyn became a strong advocate for the cause.
The Minister responsible for the Organ and Tissue Authority Ken Wyatt tells Steve there’s also been a big increase in the number of people registered as donors.
“In the last 12 months we’ve had a 12 per cent increase of 203,000 people who have become donors.
“It’s a great outcome!”
