Stranded Queenslander hits out at ‘amoral’ preference to NRL players
A stranded caller has branded Queensland government policies ‘amoral’ for favouring NRL stars.
Listener Lexi called the open line after hearing NRL five-eighth Will Smith drove into Queensland for training with the Titans.
She and her husband moved to Brisbane from Melbourne in July for work, bringing two carloads of their belongings with them.
On her husband’s second round trip from Victoria, this time to transport furniture and their caravan, the Queensland borders closed.
Four months later, he’s still stuck in NSW, living at the Moree Showground, and Lexi has now joined him.
She told Neil Breen the restrictions are “ludicrous” and “amoral” when Will Smith could enter with such ease.
“There would be over a dozen people, who have been here the whole time he’s been here, just waiting.
“In the last couple of weeks, the showgrounds have now been filling up with people all waiting to get over the border.”
While Lexi is fortunate enough to be able to work remotely, others at the showground can’t say the same.
“There’s a family here with three kids and the bloke’s got a job in the mines in Queensland, but he can’t get to it.
“Luckily, he’s been able to get a bit of farm work around here, but I don’t know what they expect people to live on…”
