A Sunshine Coast dad is preparing to set a new 24-hour world record for pushing a lawnmower by an individual, to snare the current record held by a UK man.

Steve Hirst believes he can smash that record at Sunshine Coast Stadium, and will do laps of the stadium for 24 hours.

He’s using the quirky record attempt to fundraise for disadvantaged and homeless young people in his area, through the charity IFYS.

He bought his son the Guinness World Record book, and was flicking through when he found the current record.

“I started doing the maths in my head and I am going hang on a minute, I reckon I could beat the 92.8 kilometres,” he told Peter Fegan on Brisbane Live.

The walk will take place at 7am on Friday October 7 until 7am.
