Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson has weighed in on the reignited debate about introducing daylight saving into Queensland.

It comes after Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner renewed calls for a referendum on daylight saving, 30 years since the last vote was held.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate suggested a trial of daylight saving.

“I suspect if you ask most people on the Sunshine Coast, they would probably say they would like daylight saving,” Cr Jamieson told Scott Emerson.

Although he said that may be due to the high numbers of people who’ve moved from the southern states.

As the President of the Local Government Association of Queensland, Cr Jamieson said he didn’t support two different time zones for Queensland.

He said he feared south-east Queensland being “carved out” to join NSW and Victoria.
