Teachers to condense curriculum with extra week ruled out for schools
An extra week won’t be added to the end of Queensland’s school year, despite a two-week delay to its start.
Instead, the full curriculum will be delivered in a condensed year and the initial finishing date will be upheld.
Education Minister Grace Grace announced the decision after meetings with the Teachers’ Union and stakeholders.
Queensland Teachers’ Union President Cresta Richardson told Sofie Formica teachers are already back at school, even if the students aren’t.
“Our members will be back at work for two weeks, working to adjust the curriculum so the kids get a full learning experience within the full time they have available to them.
She assured parents there’s still ongoing planning to ensure any future changes won’t disadvantage students.
“It’s really important that we all continue … to consult and communicate and all stay on the same page.”
