‘Tell us the figure!’: Neil Breen urges Treasurer to reveal flood support
The state government has been pressed to reveal how much it’s spent on south-east Queensland’s flood disaster.
The Prime Minister earlier announced on Breakfast with Neil Breen the Commonwealth will pick up 50 per cent of a support package.
It would see homeowners hit by flooding in February be able to retrofit or raise their home, or resell to the government.
But Scott Morrison says in return, there needs to be more transparency around the Palaszczuk government’s disaster spending.
It led Neil Breen to grill Treasurer and acting Premier Cameron Dick over what he’s committed and spent so far.
“It’s all well and good for you to tell the public that the federal government can see the figure, he wants you to tell us the figure,” Neil said.
“How much has the Queensland government, of its own money, spent of flood mitigation?”
Mr Dick revealed the state government has so far committed “a significant amount” from its own coffers.
“We’ve got $280 [million] out the door and then we’ve got $385 at least that we were going to commit to this new program.”
