Tennis Australia statement blasted as ‘weak waffle’ in the wake of Djokovic’s deportation
Tennis Australia has released a statement regarding the Novak Djokovic visa saga.
It’s the first public response since the world number 1 was deported on Sunday.
The statement doesn’t name Djokovic but says the board respects the decision by Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.
“As the Australian tennis family, we recognise that recent events have been a significant distraction for everyone, and we deeply regret the impact this had on all players,” the statement read.
“There are always lessons to learn, and we will review all aspects of our preparation and implementation to inform our planning – as we do every year. That process always starts once the Australian Open champions have lifted their trophies.”
Scott Emerson said it was “waffle” and a lot of questions remain.
“This statement from Tennis Australia is weak.”
