Navigating the aged care system is so complicated it’s causing many Australians to overpay for their care.

It can be difficult to know where to start when the time comes to look for a retirement home for yourself or a loved one.

Rodney Horin, Managing Director of Joseph Palmer & Sons, tells Chris Smith it’s so complicated because people aren’t made aware of their financial options.

“My experience convinced me beyond any shadow of a doubt there must be tens of thousands of Australians unnecessarily overpaying to enter aged care.”

Mr Horin says some people sell their family home unnecessarily or end up grossly overpaying.
