Tent cities popping up in the Gold Coast
Akin to the tent city in West End’s Musgrave Park, a homeless community camping out in tents is growing between the Gold Coast Highway and Coolangatta Road.
This comes from the Gold Coast Bulletin, who also reported that tents have been pitched adjacent to the Light Rail stop at Queen Street in Southport.
Mayor Tom Tate said the Council has employed specialised officers to help connect the homeless community with employment.
Neil Breen predicted that there’d be more tent cities following Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner’s announcement that people weren’t going to get moved on from camping in different places because of the homeless crisis.
“I said there’s going to be tent cities everywhere, and there are”, Neil Breen said on Brisbane Live.
