‘The greatest night of sport I’ve ever had’: Ray Hadley reveals his ultimate sporting moment
This weekend, Ray Hadley will call his 27th NRL Grand Final. A milestone only a handful of broadcasters have reached.
But Ray’s greatest sporting moment isn’t from the NRL.
It isn’t from rugby league at all.
Ray’s ultimate sporting moment was on the 25th of September, 2000.
The day he called Cathy Freeman winning gold in the 400 metre event at the Sydney Olympic Games.
“I was nervous, I was worried, there were 100,000 plus people there,” Ray tells Steve Price.
“I thought, ‘If I get this wrong, in any way, this will be my epitaph, it’ll be on my headstone’.
“I was really happy with how it turned out for Cathy and for me.
“That’s the greatest night of sport I’ve ever had.”

When it comes to the NRL Grand Final on Sunday night, Ray has weighed in on who he thinks will be crowned the 2018 Premiers.
Ray tells Steve he’s tipping the Melbourne Storm to take out the win because of the injury cloud surrounding Cooper Cronk.
“If Cronk were playing, fully fit, I’d probably lean towards the Roosters. They’ve got the best defensive record leading into this game.
“But with the doubt over Cronk – I think it’d be folly to play him – I think if he’s not there the Melbourne side have a really really big advantage.”
