Queensland is among the worst in the world for skin cancer rates and researchers are predicting they will only get worse.

It’s believed deaths from deadly melanomas could rise as much as 68 per cent in less than 20 years.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan says two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they get to 70.

“It’s that year on year exposure to our incredible weather here, the sun, that causes the damage,” she told Neil Breen.

“Melanoma is the one of most concern because of its potential to metastise, so there does need to be more done.”

She also suggested companies should be supplying sunscreen and protective clothing for people who work outside, such as tradies.
