There are growing fears the out-of-pocket cost to see a doctor is putting basic healthcare out of reach for some Brisbane suburbs.

A healthcare directory analysing GP services across the country found more than a quarter of postcodes have no access to bulk-billing doctors.

For those that do, only around one in five offer the service.

Kippa-Ring, Ormiston, Clayfield were among the most expensive suburbs, with the average out-of-pocket cost to patients around $47 – $50.

Meanwhile, Forest Lake, Underwood and Beenleigh were named as having some of the lowest costs to patients, with an average of $20 – $27.

Cleanbill founder James Gillespie told Sofie Formica the story is better in Brisbane than other places around the country.
