The challenge ahead for YouTube’s crackdown on anti-vaxxer content
Global video-sharing giant YouTube is cracking down on anti-vaxxer content on the platform, announcing a sudden ban of all channels that promote false information.
The company has deleted any channel with content that falsely suggests vaccinations contain dangerous substances, could cause chronic health conditions or do not reduce COVID-19 transmission.
Associate Professor Holly Seale from the University of New South Wales is an expert on public behaviours around infectious diseases and vaccines.
She said it might work well to eliminate some of the sources of vaccine misinformation.
“The challenge here is of course … you hit it on the head in one channel and then suddenly it pops up in another channel, so the concern will be how much of this information goes underground.”
