Peter Psaltis has questioned whether Australians are politically disconnected ahead of the federal election.

Peter, filling in for Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive, asked LNP Senator for Queensland James McGrath whether it was a concern that some voters are hard to engage in the current political climate.

“It concerns me to a certain extent, I think it’s always been in the case, there’s always been an element of people who think. that all politicians are ratbags,” he said.

He says politicians have to find new ways to reach people.

“I am someone who is previously on the record as supporting voluntary voting.

“Needless to say the federal government has no plans to bring in voluntary voting, because I think sometimes you probably shouldn’t compel people to vote if they don’t want to vote, but we are a vibrant democracy with compulsory voting.

“It’s a job for all the parties and candidates running to make sure we convince the voters we are the best party for them, and for what they believe in and for the future of Queensland and Australia.”
