The next cab off the rank this Budget season was the Brisbane City Council’s Budget, which was handed down today by Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

The big ticket items today were housing and council rates.

The 3.54 per cent council rates increase was the lowest in southeast Queensland for all the councils, but Neil Breen said “the devil is in the detail”, as the average rate increases in a lot of Brisbane suburbs is way more than that.

A Budget surplus of $322,608 was announced, however the Council’s net debt is $3.28bn.

Neil Breen said on Brisbane Live, “staring down the barrel of an Olympics in 9 years, I don’t know how they’re going to alleviate that, that’s pretty hefty”.
