The Dolphins have done what most believed they couldn’t, pulling off a fairytale debut against the Roosters.

The new club was given little chance of troubling the premiership powerhouse but ran out winners in front of 32,000 fans yesterday.

Wide World of Sports host Peter Psaltis told Laurel, Gary & Mark the match will go down in history.

“Only 10 times since rugby league started in 1908, and there’s been plenty of teams come and go, has a team won on debut,” he said.

“Wayne Bennett has now coached two of those teams.”

Nine News sports reporter Michael Atkinson told Sofie Formica that with Wayne Bennett as coach, the Dolphins’ win should be no surprise.

“He’s always been able to get a group of players from a collective background come together and really bond for their mission, for the message, for their objective.”
