More than 100 Australians including journalists, media bosses, mining magnates and others have been officially blacklisted by Russia.

The Kremlin issued the sanctions overnight to 121 people who have therefore been put on a diplomatic “stop list”, banning them from entering Russia.

Among the 121 were editors of the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian, journalists as well as mining bosses and academics.

Former executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings is among those on the list.

He said it was a strange collection of people.

“I think the 121 of us should get together and form some sot of group to help Ukraine even more effectively in the war against Russia,” he said on 4BC Drive.

Mr Jennings said there is a serious point to the list.

“What I would say is that there are Australia who have bus in Russia investment interests in Russia, they are the people who should be careful.

“My message to Australian business who are active in Russia would be to say get out.”

He also said people who are on the list might want to avoid travel to countries who are sympathetic to Russia’s cause.
