The new rent regulations housing advocates want to see in Qld

The state government is being urged to introduce a rental price cap to alleviate pressure on tenants.
Housing advocacy groups are joining forces to lead the charge after Brisbane’s rental prices surged by nearly 25 per cent last year.
Queensland Council of Social Services boss Aimee McVeigh told Bill McDonald a cap would give everyone some certainty.
“What we’re talking about is not freezing rents but putting some regulation into the market,” she said.
“It’s still a reasonable increase but tenants can have some certainty about how often it’s going to happen and also what the limit is.”
