More of us are becoming concerned about scams, according to new data from Commonwealth Bank. 

A study has found 65 per cent of Australians are more cautious about answering calls from unknown numbers.

One in four say they have been contacted by scammers at least six times a week.

QUT associate professor Cassandra Cross told Sofie Formica there’s one scam that’s particularly popular.

“It’s a text message that comes through that says, ‘Hi mum’, so it’s obviously targeted at parents,” she said.

“So it’s obviously targeted at parents. It’s purporting to come from a child that’s lost their phone or damaged their phone, coming from a new number.”
