‘There’s not a single answer’: Domestic violence deaths double
The Attorney General has called for a focus on prevention after the number of deaths from domestic violence incidents has doubled in New South Wales.
In the last year, 38 people have died from domestic violence homicides, up from 19 the year before.
NSW Attorney General Mark Speakman says the figure is below the 10 year average but it is still “distressing”.
He tells John Stanley that “there’s not a single answer to domestic violence”.
“You’ve got to battle this on a whole lot of fronts.
“Prevention is probably the key to it… lack of respect is often the starting point to a domestic violence incident.
“If we all speak out that’s a way to stop the violence and save lives.”
