Three children have escaped their Logan home after it went up in flames in the early hours of this morning.

There were six people inside the New Beith home at the time, with two adults in the worst condition.

A 33-year-old man who lived at the home has sustained critical burns.

A 31-year-old woman, who was known to the occupants but did not live at the residence, was found dead at the scene.

Three children, aged 5, 3 and 2, and a 30-year-old woman escaped, with the woman suffering burns to her body.

Deputy Commissioner Tracy Linford said detectives were piecing it all together, and said there was a “custody matter” in court yesterday, before this morning’s fatal fire.

Asked about whether it was a family violence incident, she said that would form part of the investigation.

“It is early days, that will be a part of our investigation as to look at whether that’s the case or not,” she told Scott Emerson.

“What we do know at this stage is that there was a custody matter that went to court yesterday, certainly we will look at whether this is a domestic and family violence incident, we certainly know the parties were known to each other, so that would perhaps give an indication that it is, but it is early days.”
