‘Time to reunite Queensland’: State eases vaccine mandates
The state government has eased the list of rules for unvaccinated individuals in Queensland.
From 1am, Thursday, April 14 hospitality and entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen to people who haven’t been fully vaccinated.
A vaccination certificate will still be needed to enter vulnerable settings like hospitals, prisons and early childhood centres.
“I have no doubt this saved hundreds of thousands of lives,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“Let me say this, too: if you are unvaccinated, please consider going and getting vaccinated.
“We know the evidence is clear. You are more likely to end up in hospital and risk severe illness.”
Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said April 14 was chosen as the day to ease restrictions, with hospital numbers projected to decline on that day.
It comes after the state reached a vaccination rate of 95 per cent in its eligible population yesterday.
People who hadn’t been vaccinated previously were unable to dine at pubs, restaurants and cafes or attend indoor entertainment venues.
The owner of The Caxton Hotel, Ross Farquhar, says it’s a big turn around particularly for pubs.
“We’re just sort of falling in line with the rest of the retail industry now.”
He says they had to increase security to check vaccine certificates.
