‘Too bad, Djokovic’: Victorian Premier right to shut the door on evasive tennis players
Scott Emerson says Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is right to shut the door on the world’s top tennis players who are either unvaccinated against COVID-19 or won’t reveal their vaccination status.
The Premier returned serve last week after Prime Minister Scott Morrison suggested unvaccinated players could apply for an exemption and go into two weeks quarantine ahead of the Australian Open.
It prompted a fiery retort from Mr Andrews who said his government wouldn’t be applying for exemptions for unvaccinated players.
World number one Novak Djokovic said in a press conference he was waiting to decide whether he would go to Australia to compete, with discussions ongoing between the state government and Tennis Australia.
“All of the spectators need to be double jabbed, make all the players be double jabbed,” Scott said.
“Too bad, Djokovic, kick him out.
“I don’t always agree with Daniel Andrews but on this one, I firmly am behind the Victorian Premier.”
