Toombul owner Mirvac pulls out of meeting with MPs at eleventh hour
The owner of Toombul Shopping Centre has pulled out of a meeting with MPs “very close” to when it was due to begin.
Member for Lilley Anika Wells and Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard were due to meet with property developer Mirvac today on behalf of the centre’s evicted tenants.
But not long before the meeting was due to begin, the MPs were informed it would be cancelled because one of the three executives set to attend was no longer able.
“To be fair Sofie, that is fine, but my request back was there are three people attending, I would like to meet with one or both of the others,” Ms Linard told 4BC Afternoons.
“That was not taken up by Mirvac.”
The evicted tenants have reported Mirvac is not responding to calls or emails.
“What Mirvac keeps saying in written form is tenants can contact [them] directly,” Ms Linard continued. “But that’s not what tenants are saying.
“What they’re saying is they don’t get anything back and of course, that’s what Anika and I have experienced today.”

Alan Thomas, business development manager at Ed’s PCs, a tenant within the shopping centre, said Mirvac’s actions were disgraceful.
“This our livelihood, this is how we bring bread to the table, this is our mortgage, everything is taken away,” he told Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive.
“If some of the people in the shopping centre have a little bit of savings – they’ve got that – that’s all we have at the moment.
“This has just ruined us.”
