Top A-League referee quits for greater challenge in the UK
An esteemed A-League referee is leaving Australia to work as a medical researcher in England.
Dr Jarred Gillett, who received his PhD in biomechanics last year, has refereed 157 A-League games, but last Friday’s match was his last.
The 32-year-old has been appointed a postdoctoral researcher at the John Moores University in Liverpool.
He tells Alan Jones he’ll be examining cerebral palsy in young kids.
“It’s trying to develop a diagnostic tool to tease out the actual root cause of their muscle stiffness and reduced joint range of motion.”
He’ll continue to referee at the elite level in the Championship, the UK’s second division, and possibly even the Premier League.
