Trade Minister hits back at reports of scrapped climate agreements
The Trade Minister has defended a free trade deal between Australia and the UK following backlash.
Sky News in the UK reported the Morrison government insisted a “reference to Paris Agreement temperature goals” be dropped from the deal.
However, Minister Dan Tehan said agreements such as emissions targets are not the focus of free trade deals.
“We have signed up to those, we will commit to that, [but] our free trade agreements are about free trade,” he told Neil Breen.
“Our free trade agreement’s about getting better access for our beef, for our sugar, for our dairy, for our rice…
“That’s basically where the discussion went.”
