Transition to clean energy could grow Queensland’s economy
New modelling has painted a bright future for Queensland despite the transition away from fossil fuels into clean energy.
The Deloitte report, commissioned by the Climate Council, has shown the economy could grow to $780 billion a year and impacted workers would have numerous jobs to go in to as Australia moves towards net zero emissions by 2050.
Climate Council economist Nicki Hutley said the report showed there are jobs out there, for various skill levels.
“One thing I would say to people is economies are never static,” she told Scott Emerson.
“We lost a lot of the car industry, and sure not everybody got a job after that, there was some people who have taken a lot longer.
“But the majority within a very quick period of time, a vas majority, 80 per cent, had a job within one year.
“Some have taken longer and needed training, obviously older workers might be a bit concerned, but there are jobs that are there.
“The thing that I love about this report is it talks about the opportunities for high wage jobs.”
