Transport Minister Mark Bailey has come out in defence of the new Translink logo, which has attracted criticism for its hefty price tag.

The $110,640 price tag came down to “external development costs” to create the development and design of the new look logo.

Yesterday Opposition leader David Crisafulli criticised the government on 4BC Drive, saying it was taxpayers money.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey says the previous logo has been around for 20 years and it was “old and dated”.

“What we’ve done with the new ticketing project now in the final year where we are bringing in the new way of using public transport, using your smart phone, your smart watch, you debit card, geared up to an account it means you board on a bus, train or a ferry,” he told Peter Fegan, filling in on 4BC Drive.

He says it was important to be visible and striking, particularly for visually impaired commuters.
