Trump Organization guilty of tax fraud, US jury finds
A US jury has found Donald Trump’s company guilty on multiple charges of criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records.
Trump Organization was accused of being complicit in a scheme by top executives to avoid paying personal income taxes on job perks.
The jury handed down its guilty verdict on the second day of deliberations.
The Trump Organization could be fined up to $US1.6 million, equivalent to $AU2.3 million.
Trump, who recently announced he is running for president again, previously described the case against his company as a politically-motivated “witch hunt”.
While the former president was not on trial, prosecutors alleged he “knew exactly what was going on” with the scheme. Trump and the company’s lawyers deny the allegation.
