A taxpayers group doesn’t want average Australians being hit with more charges as the government considers a tough new carbon tax on cars.

Currently, only two of Australia’s top 20 cars meet the carbon-emissions target of 105gCO2/km, which could see the rest facing significant price hikes.

Satyajeet Marar, Director of policy at Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance, a group fighting against the tax, tells Chris Smith if it’s introduced it’ll have a tremendous negative impact on the average Australian.

“It’s going to be a $2 billion red tape impact on business including car dealers which will inevitably be passed on to consumers in the form of higher taxes.
