A Victoria Cross recipient was left curled up in a ball, shaking, for seven hours in Ascot overnight as he waited for an ambulance.

Daniel Keighran was suffering from a severe fever and in no state to drive when he called emergency services for help last night.

“He’s seen a lot, especially when he was serving overseas, but he was still shocked by the wait times,” senior 9News reporter Tim Arvier told Neil Breen.

“He said, ‘I know my background, I do not call triple-zero unless it’s for a reason’. This is a bloke who’s used to being shot at.”

In a post to social media, Mr Keighran said of all the “rough times” he’s experienced, “this one takes the cake”.

“I wanted to thank Queensland Ambulance and the RBWH nurses for giving me the best drugs (love you all!)… However, you are seriously in need of more resources,” he wrote.
