Wally Lewis backs ‘much better idea’ for NRL Grand Finals
The King is backing a new opportunity for the NRL to change the way it runs Grand Finals.
League bosses are still in talks with the NSW government over a $250 million deal guaranteeing the yearly event would stay in Sydney collapsed.
But Wally Lewis says he’d rather see the NRL abandon the agreement in favour of a new arrangement.
“In America, it goes to a different town every year and they certainly share it around,” he told Laurel, Gary & Mark. “I think that’s a much better idea.
“I think they probably have an opportunity now, the NRL, to be able to say, ‘One year we’ll have it in Melbourne, one year we’ll have it in Sydney, and certainly Brisbane’, and I’m sure Canberra will be putting their hands up as well.”
