Between July 1, 2023, and July 15, 2024, more than $18.7m in claims were lodged by staff of the Department of Education and Training.

The top 10 claims alone were worth more than $1.26m, with seven related to psychological trauma, anxiety or stress.

Peter Fegan labeled the rise in violence in Queensland schools as ‘outrageous’, saying you can’t blame teachers for walking away from their jobs.

Queensland Association of State School Principals President Pat Murphy told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “I find it’s the front office staff who cop at the worst.”

‘You’re talking principals and our teachers. Everyone in our school body is entitled to respect, particularly those front office staff who aren’t earning a huge amount of money,’ he said.

‘You can have an issue with the school, but let’s treat our staff, our teachers and our principals with respect.’
