‘We’ve been told lie and lie after lie’: Minister blasts Gold Coast City committee chairman

Queensland’s Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick has blasted the Gold Coast City Council Planning Committee Chairman over claims made about the council’s City Plan.

Chairman Cameron Caldwell told Ray Hadley an application to amend the plan was already on Minister Dick’s desk before a 20-storey development on Main Beach Parade was approved.

But in an explosive letter to Councillor Caldwell, the Minister says “nothing is currently on my desk”.

The Minister also writes the last meeting between his department and council officers occurred on 27 September, with the next meeting scheduled for October 18.

Ray has also blasted the chairman for his claims.

“We’ve been told lie and lie after lie,” he says.

“This council approved that 20-storey development, this week.

“After Cameron Caldwell of the planning committee recommended last week they approve it.

“I’m hoping the Minister, Cameron Dick, can call it in.

“I’d like to think it’s ineptitude.

“I don’t want to think this is corruption, but based on the history of councils within southeastern Queensland, you’d have to be scratching your head.”
