Sydney Roosters Coach Trent Robinson believes the NRL has “gone too far” with its crackdown on hip drop tackles.

The issue raised its head last night again with three players charged over apparent hip drop tackles in the clash between the Broncos and the Eels in Darwin.

The three-time premiership-winning coach told The Continuous Call Team the NRL has overreacted when it comes to hip drop tackles.

“I feel like we’ve gone too far,” Robinson said.

“I feel like we’ve got to the point where now we’ve got to penalise and send people to the bin on each occasion.

“My opinion on the Payne Haas one last night, I felt like he ducked underneath, got into an awkward spot and he’s going to fall somewhere and he’s trying to bring him down.

“I feel like it’s really accidental, and we’ve got to know that they’re going to happen in our game.”
