‘We’ve had a decade of deficits’: The impact on the budget
Experts say although the economy is slowing it is not having a big impact on the budget.
Chief Economist Deloitte Access Economics Chris Richardson tells Ross Greenwood it is an “unusual combination” but there are positives.
“There’s good news in jobs and there’s even better news in profits and that combination means… even though the economy’s worse the budget’s better.
“Budgets are more fragile than people think.
“We’ve had a decade of deficits.
“Just remember it has been enormously hard to get the budget back into better health.”
Mr Richardson discusses the importance of more tax cuts.
