A retired media pilot is struggling to understand what caused the deadly Sea World helicopter crash yesterday afternoon.

Four people, including Sea World chief pilot Ashley Jenkinson, were killed and three are fighting for their lives following the incident.

Retired pilot Alex Wilson told Bill McDonald he’d used the helipad a number of times throughout his career.

“It’s not in controlled airspace, so you don’t have any radar looking after you,” he said on 4BC Summer Drive.

“Obviously they didn’t know where each other were. I just find it a little bit hard to work out why.

“We’ll probably never know that exact reason why.”
