‘What have they got to hide?’: Government under pressure to release child death report
The state government is under pressure to reveal findings from an investigation into child abuse.
The Palaszczuk government has been sitting on the report since October, which investigated 55 deaths in the last financial year.
Of those children, 10 died by assault or neglect, six by suicide and two drowned.
Cause of death for a further seven children is currently unknown and nine had “sudden unexplained deaths”.
LNP Child Protection spokeswoman Amanda Camm told Mark Levy it’s “appalling” the government isn’t sharing the findings.
“We had three parliamentary sitting weeks where the Minister could have tabled that report,” she said.
“We can only protect children if the government is transparent about what the failures are.”
Mark agreed, telling Ms Camm: “The question needs to be asked: what have they got to hide?”
