Olympic champion Kaylee McKeown has proven her skill once again, trumping the world record-holder in a blistering finish to the 100-metre backstroke final.

The Australian swim team’s quiet achiever turned at the 50-metre mark in third but managed to power home ahead of Canadian swimmer Kylie Masse, just 20 metres out.

Her mum, Sharon, told Laurel, Gary & Mark that McKeown was inspired by her older sister, Taylor McKeown.

“When Taylor went to the Commonwealth Games in 2014 in Glasgow and won her gold medal there, Kaylee’s like, ‘I just want to be like Taylor’!

“Taylor was an inspirational model throughout Kaylee’s growing up.”
