What needs to happen now as COVID-19 rules relax
Queenslanders are being urged not to become complacent as COVID-19 rules are relaxed.
From tomorrow, face masks are no longer mandated on domestic flights and people who test positive will only have to isolate for five days instead of seven.
Reporting of COVID-19 figures will also be wound back from daily to weekly.
Dr Paul Griffin, director of infectious diseases at Mater, said he believed people were sick of hearing about COVID-19 numbers, and he supported reporting the case numbers less frequently.
“What I think we do need to make sure we have, is a really good mechanism of communicating when that risk goes back up, because we know there will be another peak, we know case numbers will climb at some point in time,” he said.
“And we are going to have to let people know that.”
He said there will be another wave, and urged people not to be complacent.
