What you need to know if someone goes into cardiac arrest
Every 10 minutes, an Australian suffers from a heart attack, with an average of 21 people dying from a heart attack every day.
“I find these figures startling,” says John Stanley.
Many of these would be preventable if people knew how to perform CPR or if there was a defibrillator on hand.
Australian Hearts is ramping up a campaign to get a defibrillator in every workplace by 2020, and to educate people on how to use them.
Spokesperson Matt Andrews joins John Stantely to explain what to do, and how to use a defibrillator if someone goes into cardiac arrest.
He says when performing CPR, don’t be afraid to use force.
“Be forceful… if you’re going to break a rib, that’s okay, better than being dead.”
