Why Bill isn’t a fan of the Lord Mayor’s plan for towers in South Brisbane

Bill McDonald says a new sustainability plan to build apartment towers in the Kurilpa Precinct won’t work.

Adrian Schrinner today spruiked an anti-sprawl strategy for Brisbane, which would see 274-metre-tall apartment buildings built in South Brisbane.

The apartments would dwarf the city’s current tallest building, the 90-storey Brisbane Skytower, which stands at 270.5 metres tall.

“It’s an area that’s already congested, though, and clogged and lacking infrastructure to cope with all the people that live there,” Bill McDonald said.

“So let’s go and pack a few more in like sardines! I agree with building up and not necessarily building out as a solution to housing and accommodation but why not do it somewhere else?”
